US President-elect Trump, in a statement on his account on the social media platform Truth Social, announced that he nominated Dr Oz to be the Director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Trump stated that America is facing a serious health crisis and that there is no doctor more qualified than Özden to deal with these problems.
FIRST NAME OF TURKISH ORIGIN NOMINATED
Mehmez Oz’s nomination is also a first in US history. Öz will be the first person of Turkish origin to be nominated for a government post that requires Senate confirmation.
“CAN SOLVE MANY PROBLEMS”
Referring to Dr. Öz’s education and career, which started at Harvard University, Trump emphasised that Öz could solve many problems in the American health system.
In the US, Medicare is a federal health insurance that provides health services to the elderly over the age of 65. Medicaid, on the other hand, operates as a joint federal and state programme that provides health insurance services to low-income groups.
In the US, the federal government spent $860 billion under the Medicaid programme and $848 billion under Medicare in 2023.
