SEPTEMBER 10, 1966 – The Rolling Stones made an appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Guitarist Brian Jones had his hand in a cast after a fall in the bathroom during the band’s recent trip to Tangier, Morocco, but antiques dealer Christopher Gibbs claimed that while in his shop, Jones acquired the injury when he swung at girlfriend Anita Pallenberg, missed, and struck a metal door frame.Whatever the source of the injury, the Stones were forced to mime their performances of “Paint It, Black,” “Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadow?,” and “Lady Jane” to backing tracks (except for Jagger’s lead vocals) since Jones was unable to play live for several weeks.
