The plot of popular Netflix TV show Stranger Things is as follows.
The TV show happens in the 1980s in a port city of Montauk in New York state. A young child mysteriously disappears. Her family, friends and local police start an investigation to reveal the truth. As the investigation gets deeper, everyone is dragged into an extraordinary mystery with secret government experiments. The mother (Winona Rider) is forced to face with horrible supernatural forces to get the child. Actor David Harbour stars in the TV show as the town sheriff.

According to a popular conspiracy theory, Montauk project is a series of a discomforting and secret experiment by the US government in Camp Hero military base in Montauk, Long Island.
The conspiracy theory started with Preston Nichols’ The Montauk Project: Experiments in Time was published in 1992. The theory claims that in the 1970s and 1980s Camp Hero (a radar system shut down by the US Air Forces in 1969) tries to influence the thoughts of millions of Americans and remotely control them.
