Mark Chapman? No!
But it looks a bit like him and was exploited by the UK press in 1981.
“Not Photoshop, it is simply not Mark Chapman. This was obvious on Saturday 15 August 1981 when the Daily Mirror printed its nonsense, and has never been otherwise. Compare the Bob Dylan fan with photographs of Mark Chapman. Not wildly unalike, but two different people. Look at the noses. Mark Chapman lived in Hawaii at that time and is known to have stayed there for all of 1979. His past has been examined in detail after he became famous. The Ron Galella photograph with Alfreda McCrary and Bob Dylan is from 20 October 1979 after Saturday Night Live. John Lennon was killed on 8 December 1980.”

Closer view.
Very tabloid and very much British press. If you read the words the article never suggests the photograph IS of Mark Chapman! But literacy levels and logic of Daily Mirror readers is very, very low. They will take the false story never stated away with them and remember it for years.
URL at the the top of this Comment links to a thread where a startling number of fans show very little critical thinking. This false myth comes up often and needs debunking each time…
